Spotting Orca in British Seas is exciting because there is only a small group residing in the UK. They have unmistakable black and white markings so are easy to spot (if you're lucky enough!) One group of Orcas arrive in Northern Scotland in early summer to feast on fish and head up to the Shetland & Orkney Islands.
Orcas are actually dolphins and are the biggest member of the dolphin family. They are also known as 'killer whales' this name coming from their hunting technique of working together to kill whales much larger than themselves - whale killers.
